Our History

In addition to sponsoring weekly dance classes, Southern Academy is home to a performing company of Irish dancers, ages 6 – 50-something.   This ensemble made their debut in February, 1997 (as the Aoibhneas an Rince Irish Dancers) at the opening night festivities for the Arena Stage production of Molly Sweeney.  They have since been busy performing at local festivals and school and community events, including appearances at the American Ireland Fund Gala at the National Building Museum and with Gaelic Storm, the band featured in the movie, Titanic.
